US Grade 3 - 6
Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo is a touching and laugh-out-loud adventure about friendship, hope, love, and courage. This fun story will quickly draw your child in and be one they won't want to put down. During this book club, I will help learners dive a little deeper into our story by leading them through discussions and activities related to the chapters read. Learners will also have the opportunity to share their responses to the assigned activity. Learners will be asked to read about 13 chapters (don’t worry the chapters are VERY short!) before each class (averaging 46 pages) and complete the assigned activity that will be posted in the classroom after our first meeting. **I also offer a 5-week book club that meets once a week if this session feels like too much reading in a short time** This book club is a great opportunity for your child to sharpen their reading comprehension skills, gain insight from others’ perspectives, and have a fun time reading an unforgettable story. Class is appropriate for (𝐂𝐄𝐅𝐑: A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) **Learners will need a copy of the book Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo. **PDF file of journal discussion questions will be attached to the classroom after our first meeting. Teacher expertise and credentials
Tennessee Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Education from Harding University
Kate DiCamillo is one of my favorite authors. When I taught in the classroom, I always used Kate DiCamillo’s books to read aloud to my students because she does a great job of helping readers to learn important life lessons and think deeply. I also have a Masters in Reading, and it is my goal to help your child think deeper about the texts that they read. It would be my pleasure to share this amazing reading adventure with your child.
