Parental Guidance
The nature of this course has some strenuous physical activity. I advise keeping a water bottle near by. Additionally, parents may want to remain close if they have a fearless daredevil. I advise students to listen to their body’s needs and abilities. If we need to modify something, or if the students needs a rest, I’m more than willing to make those accommodations!
Supply List
Students should work on a soft surface- a tumbling mat if they own one. If not, a yoga mat, towel or other gentle surface will be sufficient. Students should also wear clothing that is comfortable to move in and allows full range of movement.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
“We were all meant to be naturalists, each in his own degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things.” - Charlotte Mason
I have been teaching children for over ten years, and now home educate my own children using the Charlotte Mason method in which I teach nature study, poetry, folksong, music and composer study, artist and picture study, and handwork in addition to the core subjects such as literature, phonics, and math. I also own a business where I create innovative lesson plans for homeschoolers to use for morning time and nature study. My Etsy shop may be viewed at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BarefootNBoundless
In addition to my Bachelor's in theatre, I am a certified ESL teacher with my TESOL certificate and I favor the online teaching platform. My passion lies in aiding children in their discoveries of the natural world. As a lifelong student myself, I continue to pursue my interests in natural health and wellness including herbology, essential oils, and homeopathy.
A positive, project-based learning model is the foundation of all of my courses. I look forward to teaching outdoor dance and movement classes, choreography workshops, mindfulness and movement, and nature studies. I believe nature study is for everyone- from preschool to those preparing for graduation and beyond.
Creating aesthetically pleasing content is important to me, as visual aids are a great tool to promote learning.
Thank you for taking the time to read my teacher profile. Please don’t hesitate to come to me with questions, concerns, or course requests. I am happy to design a curriculum for your unique learning goals.
Charlotte Mason said “Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.” My hope is that these courses ignite an affection for lifelong learning in your child and foster a relationship with nature. I hope to see your child in my class!
Sincerely,
Tess Viox
