Big emotions are common among kids. However, in the middle school years, students are going through a large restructuring inside their brain that to will lead to higher and more complex thinking ability. This affects a child’s ability to handle their emotional state. This one time course will educate kids on: How to handle their emotional capacity. Kids will learn about their prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala and how they work. Kids will learn about their fight/flight response and use examples. Kids will also learn and try different ways to be calm, cool, and collected before reacting. In this one time class, kids will engage through a light lecture, discussion, fight/flight game, and planning for their response to get from seeing red to being cool and rational. This is an introductory class and there no previous knowledge required.

I have learned how important it is for this age gap to understand their large feelings and how they not only enduring a physiological change but their brain is going through a large restructuring too which affects our responses to events.
