In this One-Time class students will: Start class with a fun Icebreaker: What is your favorite Fairytale? Watch and discuss slides that describe story elements, point of view, and perspective. Listen to the flipped tale, “Honestly, Little Red Riding Hood Was Rotten! As Told by The Wolf” by Trisha Speed Shaskan. This will be screen shared for each student, encouraging them to follow along. Compare and contrast the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale to the flipped tale as a group. Discuss as a group the story elements, point of view, and perspective of the flipped tale. Play a Kahoot game to review terms and concepts. Prior preparation and Supplies: Students are not required to bring any supplies to class. A prior review reading of the classic tale would be helpful for discussion and understanding. Students will also need their imagination, creativity, and willingness to play along!
Learning Goals
Students will enrich their understanding of the elements that make up a story, compare and contrast concepts, and the point of view and perspective of characters. Practicing these key reading skills will benefit students at all levels with comprehension, inferring, drawing conclusions, and making connections throughout their learning journey.

My name is Kim Filley and I am a middle school librarian in the state of Missouri! I have a Bachelor's degree in Library Science and Media from the University of Arizona. I have been a public school educator for the past 17 years. In that time, I have taught K-8th grade students.
I enjoy seeing my students get excited about reading and I love to create fun and interactive lessons to help them build their knowledge, skills, and genre interests! I am passionate about instilling a love of reading within all of my students regardless of their skill level. Everyone should be given the chance to discover literacy and be encouraged to expand their appreciation of it!
