4 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Back to the Basics: Anxiety 101 ( Neuroscience & Anxiety )This week will be a breakdown of anxiety. We will be looking at neuroscience, specifically how the brain detects and responds to threats and how this translates into anxiety. We will discuss different types of anxiety and how to spot the symptoms from them.Week 2Lesson 2Managing Change and how it affects AnxietyThis week we will start to look deeper into how changes and transitions in our life affect levels of anxiety. We will learn about different strategies that can be used to navigate seasons of change. This may include a move, a new school, changes at home, etc.Week 3Lesson 3Sleep and AnxietyThis week we will talk about the relationship between sleep and anxiety. We will discuss research-backed strategies that may be helpful for getting a good night's sleep when managing anxiety. We will practice meditation and mindfulness techniques before bed.Week 4Lesson 4Negative Thoughts and OverthinkingThoughts that pop into your mind may make you feel uneasy, but they are common — and there are strategies you can use to manage them. We will also discuss how to sort through those moments of overthinking.
This class is taught in English.
Students will explore the neuroscience of anxiety, identify its types and symptoms, while also learning to manage anxiety levels amidst life changes, understanding the sleep-anxiety connection, and developing strategies for coping with negative thoughts and overthinking.
My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As I therapist, I have 8 years of experience working with teens and youth as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research and worked as a certified educator. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years of doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise, I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view. I have spent years creating age-appropriate mental health content for teens and have a true passion for the field of mental health.
Homework Offered
Discussion questions will be posted weekly in the classroom. They will be reviewed each week by the teacher for completion, and will be required for each student enrolled in the course.Assessments Offered

The intention of the class is not to elicit reports personal experiences with mental health from learners. This class will be not be taught as therapy or group therapy. If the learner begins to share any personal mental health concerns I will kindly ask the learner to refrain from further discussion in front of the class and to continue the conversation with a trusted adult. If a learner ever shares something that is concerning, I will reach out to parents after class depending on the context of the information Note: Review Outschool's Community Standards before class to ensure that learners remember to keep personal information private.
