Students will learn a professional vocal technique. We will train the voice each week by learning vocal technique exercises and how to properly do these exercises. We will apply the technique to a carefully selected song for young singers from the popular, Disney, or Broadway song repertoire. Students will receive individual feedback personally each week to ensure proper production of exercises and song melody. Students will begin to learn how to use the voice throughout the chest, mix and head voice registers in both exercises and song melody. The focus of this class is on learning vocal technique exercises and applying technique to a song melody. We learn the same musical patterns and vocal technique exercises that are used in other Singing Technique & Repertoire classes. Prerequisite: A desire to sing!
I have worked with this professional vocal technique since 1998. I have taught young singers in the the NYC metropolitan area since 2012 and have seen their voices develop with freedom throughout the range of the voice. I have observed hours and hours of voice lessons of children Broadway singers in NYC using this technique. I love helping young singers understand their unique voice and sing with confidence. I also love the online classroom, both as a student having completed a Master Certificate in songwriting with Berklee College of Music's online school and as a teacher, as it creates a rich learning experience for students with its many resources and ability to enable communication with other students.
There are written and recorded homework assignments each week, due by Sunday.
Materials will be provided in the classroom. These will include videos of lesson material, audio recordings for review and practice of vocal exercises presented each week, class notes for each week's lesson, and weekly assignments. Song lyrics will be posted. It may be helpful to print out song lyrics.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Written homework discussion assignments will be posted in the classroom. Recorded homework assignments will also be posted in the classroom or can be sent to the teacher directly. Teacher will post written feedback (or video feedback if demonstration is needed) in the classroom or by personal message from the classroom.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need to record themselves each week and upload to the classroom. This can be done easily right in the classroom with the 'Record Video' tab.
