Class Experience

In each class, we will read a beautiful children's book about a new artist. The artist will be discussed and their works will be shared. The learners will become familiar with a new artist each week after listening to the story, and observing the masterpieces.

The learners will then be inspired to create a piece of art just like the artist of the day! New art techniques, vocabulary, and skills will be acquired. In this class we will be learning how to collage, paint with watercolors, and draw with oil pastels. Elements and principals of art such as shape, pattern, line, color, texture and form will be discussed and understood. An outline of the session is as follows:

Class 1: Vincent Van Gogh: Sunflowers Mixed Media
Class 2: Henri Matisse: Organic Shapes Collage
Class 3: Paul Klee: Cat and Bird Oil Pastel Drawing
Class 4: Wassily Kandinsky: Abstract Circle Painting

At the end of the session, the learners will have had gained many new skills and will have four lovely pieces that they will be proud to display!

No background knowledge is necessary, only the willingness to learn and get creative.

*This is a flexible schedule class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom every week. Upon completion of the art project, learners will be encouraged to upload a picture of their piece to share with the class and so the instructor can check for proper understanding of featured techniques and concepts. Each student will be required to comment on others' art works a total of 4 times throughout the course in order to to develop a sense of community in the class. The instructor will be available to help and will provide individual feedback throughout the course.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Younger learners may need assistance with cutting. *** Parents, two of the projects in this session are more successful when painted paper is used. A video on how to make painted paper will be sent to you prior to the start of the session. This is a fun little project for you and your learner to do together before class, but it is a bit messy, so your guidance and supervision is recommended. For those who wish for a simpler route, patterned scrapbooking paper is a fine alternative :)
