Description
Class Experience
Student-specific!
I am a drummer currently working with two groups in the Seattle area and with 8 years of experience playing in a variety of settings including marching band, jazz band, concert band, show choir combo, and independent groups/ensembles. I have led drumming workshops with elementary school kids through Iowa State University. I also have experience teaching in other areas as a Teacher's assistant for CORE Design classes at Iowa State University and coaching high school boys soccer at Holy Family High School in Broomfield, Colorado. Can't wait to meet your aspiring drummers!
Homework will be given weekly. I recommend at least 2-3 hrs of practice per week, but the more students put in, the more they get out!
Pair of drumsticks! Vic Firth and Promark make quality sticks! You will also need a surface (any surface) to tap on. A drum pad is optional and will reduce noise and add an authentic drumhead feel. I am using an "HQ Realfeel" pad. Full electronic drumsets and acoustic drumsets are very welcome. Headphones or high-quality speakers are a must. We will also talk about what equipment might be helpful based on individual students' learning goals.
No formal assessment unless requested. I can certainly provide feedback to parents and/or students on how things are going at any time.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
