Flexible All-In-One Kalimba (Basics, Beginners and Intermediate Classes)

*This is a flexible class so there will be no live lessons. 

This 6 week flexible course will combine my Kalimba Basics, Kalimba for Beginners and Intermediate Kalimba classes in one convenient class that can be completed at the pace of the learner. This course will be composed of several pre-recorded instructional videos to guide learners through all of the steps needed in order to learn the Kalimba and I will of course be available throughout the course to answer any questions learners may have along the way! By the end of this 6 week course learners will know all of the basics of the Kalimba, how to play 6 practice scales, 6 beginner level Kalimba songs and 10 Intermediate level Kalimba songs. There is no prior knowledge needed for this class. (This class will not include any holiday songs and will only include secular songs.)

Week 1- Learners will participate in a group icebreaker game to get to know the other learners and myself. I will be sharing a pre-recorded instructional video that introduces learners to the basics of the Kalimba: the history of the Kalimba, the different parts of the instrument, how to hold the instrument and play notes properly, how to read the different formats of Kalimba music and how to tune the Kalimba. We will also learn a practice scale and by the end of class we will learn a beginner level Kalimba song. Learners are also expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.

Week 2 - I will be sharing pre-recorded instructional videos of the Kalimba for Beginners material which will include 5 new practice scales and the 5 beginner level songs from my Kalimba for Beginners class. Learners will be encouraged to upload a recording of themselves playing a song of their choice from the week with the class. Learners are expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.

Week 3 - I will be sharing a pre-recorded instructional video of three Intermediate level Kalimba songs. Learners will be encouraged to upload a recording of themselves playing a song of their choice from the week with the class. Learners will are expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.

Week 4 - I will be sharing a pre-recorded instructional video of three new Intermediate level Kalimba songs. Learners will be encouraged to upload a recording of themselves playing a song of their choice from the week with the class. Learners are expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.

Week 5 - I will be sharing a pre-recorded instructional video of another three new Intermediate level Kalimba songs. Learners will be encouraged to upload a recording of themselves playing a song of their choice from the week with the class. Learners are expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.

Week 6 - I will be sharing a pre-recorded instructional video of one final Intermediate level Kalimba song. Learners will be encouraged to upload a recording of themselves playing a song of their choice from the week with the class. Learners are expected to respond to class discussion questions about the songs they learned throughout the week and will be expected to respond to at least 2 other learners comments to facilitate group interaction. I will be responding to each students recording and comments throughout the class to further encourage group interaction.
