Description

Class Experience

In this 5 week flexible schedule course, students will be guided to write their own narrative story based on a small moment in their life. This is a flexible schedule class, so we will not meet live.

Each week I will teach a prerecorded mini-lesson focused on a certain topic and upload it to the classroom by Sunday night. Each video will be about 20-30 minutes. Learners will be expected to watch the mini-lesson and will then be given one task to complete before the following week. Models of...

Students will learn to write a narrative story about a small moment by brainstorming, drawing pictures, writing sentences, and adding details.

I have been a first grade teacher for 4 years and had extensive training on how to teach Writer’s Workshop, as well as implemented it in my own classroom.

Learners will be expected to watch the video presented by the teacher and complete the assigned task each week. Students will be expected to write/draw for at least 15 minutes after each prerecorded lesson. It will then need to be uploaded to the Outschool classroom page so others can see it.

Students can print the writing paper I will be posting in the classroom or use their own writing paper.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Weekly writing assignments will be given in the video, as well as posted to the classroom. Learners will need to upload their work each week and I will send individual feedback on each assignment.

No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

This process is loosely based off of Lucy Calkins’ Writer’s Workshop.
