Class Experience

***If you would like LIVE tutoring please check my other tutoring listings. I offer tutoring in several formats and payment options.***

This class is meant to serve as a convenient one-on-one tutoring FLEX option for elementary and middle-school aged students. I will assist with studying and explaining topics of confusion. I can also offer 1-on-1 reading practice and spelling practice, as well as tutoring for Spanish and ESL. The content of each class will be based on what the parent and student request.

This is a FLEX class, so there will be no live meetings. All communication will be through Outschool messenger and/or the Outschool classroom. Each section of FLEX tutoring will consist of 4 weeks, students/parents are welcome to register for multiple sections. Upon registration, parents should message me with the topic of focus for that section (see below for topic suggestions/options). I will create coordinating, personalized lessons based on that topic of focus. Each week students will receive a lesson video posted in our classroom on Tuesday afternoon (EST). Many lessons will also come with a pdf of notes and guidelines depending on the topic. Students should watch the lesson and complete any activities within the lesson, then send them to Teacher Elisha for feedback. All feedback will be provided via the private Outschool classroom or Outschool messenger.

Teacher Elisha is also available to answer questions through Outschool messenger and will respond within 24 hours.

Examples include, but are not limited to:
-Practice reading a book
-Novel study
-Writing a book report
-A math topic that is challenging
-Spelling practice/quizzes
-Studying for a test
-Practicing conversation skills (ESL)
-Increasing vocabulary (Both native speakers and ESL learners)
-Completing a research assignment
-Taking notes from another source
-Writing/Editing an essay/paragraph/short answer

The format of this class will be as if your learner and I were working together in person. The 1:1 class size makes it possible to give each student customized lessons that relate to their topic and learning style. I have a virtual whiteboard if needed, as well as the ability to create songs, games, practice sheets, etc...

Parents should know, I will not do the work for your learner. My role as the tutor is to help your child understand how to get the correct answer. In doing this, I like to have fun with my students while I teach because I feel that when they WANT to learn, they pick up material much more easily.

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.
Learning Goals
Students will get reinforcement and/or clarification of topics that they are struggling or need an extra boost in. They will also have a teacher "on call" for any questions.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
For this particular course, the content is based purely on what the needs of the learner are. This means that when a learner is registered, the parent or guardian needs to indicate in the private classroom what they want their child to receive help with. If it is homework-related help, an image or description of the assignment would be very helpful.
Supply List
Parent or Student must supply the lesson topic prior to the lesson. This could be anything from "I want my learner to practice reading." to an image of a worksheet they need assistance with.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Southern New Hampshire University
I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from ten to nineteen. We are diving into our 7th year of homeschooling and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 19 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also certified in TESOL and Art Therapy.
