Description
Class Experience
This is the third 10 week class in a 4 class series that will prepare your teenager for a career as a professional photographer, photographer's helper, or 2nd shooter for wedding photographers. Students work on their photography skills every week during all four courses. This class is for older high schoolers who would like to enter the photography industry as a full time professional or for part time work. 2nd shooting weddings is just one of many great paying jobs that would be awesome to...
Students will spend 10 weeks planning how they will present their brands and use marketing to find clients. This course allows students to consider many different ways to connect with clients and get paid photography work. They will continue to work on photography skills weekly during the entire 4 course sequence.
Before I began mentoring aspiring and working photographers, I ran a successful photography business in a small town in Pennsylvania. I made many mistakes along the way which helped me develop the training program that I use for mentoring and have adapted for teenagers here on Outschool.
Students can expect to spend 1-3 hours each week working on their photography skills and making decisions for their business. Most of this time will be taking photos and organizing their thoughts on each topic as we proceed through the course. Some students may opt to purchase and read additional suggested texts.
A camera that allows the student to change their aperture, shutter speed, and ISO is required for this course. DSLR or mirrorless cameras are most common. Many students will be using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop at this point in their photography education. Students will develop a website in this course and can choose free or low investment paid options if they want a custom URL or more functionality.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
All learners will receive feedback on all of their images throughout class. Grades can be provided for any students who need them - contact me for more information.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will share some optional books students may choose to purchase for more information on branding and advertising but no textbook is required for this class. The book list will be available in the classroom when students register.
