Beginner Level
There will be no live meetings for this class, but students will have plenty of interaction as we learn to create and solve secret codes and cipher puzzles. Decoding puzzles and ciphers are very fun because it allows kids to think more and pretend that they are spies solving mystery clues. Students will go through 2 different types of puzzles and ciphers every week starting every Monday and ending on Sunday. I will send students a total of 14 different puzzles every week, 7 of each cipher puzzle and secret code. Students will post their answers every Sunday to ensure that no one gets the answers beforehand. Students will receive a pre-recorded lesson on how to solve the puzzle and then they will have the opportunity to solve their own mysteries and if they feel comfortable they will also create their own secret codes and ciphers. To ensure that students interact they will be asked to create their own secret codes and ciphers and we will exchange them with each other to see if we can solve what they have secretly put in a message for everyone to decode. Please see below for a full list of secret code and cipher activities. When students create their own secret codes and ciphers it will allow students to interact with each other. Students can use it on an escape room or google slides to create a game and play with their friends. Week 1: Students will learn and create these ciphers -Reverse Alphabet Cipher -Pigpen Cipher Week 2: Students will learn and create these ciphers -Cross code Cipher -Polybius Cipher Week 3: Students will learn and create these ciphers -Morse Code Cipher -Mapping Cipher Week 4: Students will learn and create these ciphers -Cutout Decoder -Symbol Code Cypher
