In this 16-week class, the learner will gain a thorough understanding of buying and selling property, as well as mortgages. The class will be divided into the following weeks and topics: Week 1: Introduction to Real Estate - What is real estate? Why is it important? Week 2: Types of Properties - Different types of properties (houses, apartments, land, etc.) and their uses. Week 3: Property Value - How to determine the value of a property and what factors can influence it. Week 4: Buying a Property - Steps involved in buying a property, including finding a real estate agent, getting pre-approved for a mortgage, and making an offer. Week 5: Home Inspections - What to look for during a home inspection and why they are important. Week 6: Closing the Deal - Finalizing the purchase of a property and what to expect during closing. Week 7: Selling a Property - Steps involved in selling a property, including listing it, staging it, and working with a real estate agent. Week 8: Mortgages - What is a mortgage, how to get pre-approved, and understanding different types of mortgages. Week 9: Mortgage Rates - Understanding interest rates and how they affect the cost of a mortgage. Week 10: Budgeting for a Property - How to create a budget and plan for the costs associated with buying and owning a property. Week 11: Property Taxes - What property taxes are and how they are calculated. Week 12: Insurance - Different types of insurance required when buying a property and why they are important. Week 13: Home Maintenance - Basic home maintenance, including landscaping, HVAC systems, and appliances. Week 14: Renovations - Types of renovations, planning and budgeting, and working with contractors. Week 15: Real Estate Law - Understanding real estate laws and regulations. Week 16: How to Use Real-estate as an Investment By the end of the class, learners will have a comprehensive understanding of real estate and be able to confidently navigate the buying and selling process. Homework will include various assignments and projects, both individual and group-based, and will take approximately 30 mins per week. Progress will be assessed through informal assessment and individual feedback. Parents should note that this course requires no prior experience. The flexible schedule (Recorded Flex Class) allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. We will be going through each week as a group and I will post the lesson weekly (depending on which day you started). The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week, as part of a project. After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps on how to improve or adapt. Time frame for the Week: Mondays - The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions. Tuesdays - Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion. Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Students will discuss it among themselves. Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students. Saturday - Sunday - The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week. Please note: This course requires no prior experience. *For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but their budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower income. Learning Goals
By the end of this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the process of buying and selling property, including researching neighborhoods, finding the right property, negotiating a deal, and closing a sale. They will also gain an understanding of the basics of mortgages, including types of loans, interest rates, and down payments.
