Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
The goals of this class are: - to help students become more aware of reading in context in order to help them remember the meanings of the words they read and how to find information to answer questions about what is read - to learn strategies to help students accurately find and comprehend information when reading passages and also apply these strategies to remember information related to life skills - to learn to identify the main idea of text and increase comprehension of the text
For more than three decades, I have successfully helped hundreds of children and teens from 2 years old to 19 in public school, private school, homeschool and wellness center settings improve their speech, language, auditory, phonics, reading and brain fitness skills and much more. I have a M.S. degree in speech-language pathology and earned a Master's level teaching certification. I am also an Interactive Metronome (IM) Certified Provider. IM is a computer based brain fitness training program. I meet my students where they are at their level. As I teach, I adjust to help reluctant learners as well as others who may need or want more challenge. I have decades of experience teaching each of these types of learners within the same class. I try to make my classes engaging and fun. I have a wide range of experience that includes teaching those on the autism spectrum, learning disabled students, add/adhd and many more areas of concern, as well as, experience teaching regular and gifted learners. I have found that patient encouragement in a structured and energetic yet relaxed classroom environment helps learners brains focus to receive information better and helps them become detail oriented.
Learners might need to download and print out weekly provided texts and worksheets from the classroom or they can download and view them on their device. They will also need a pencil or erasable pen to complete the worksheets. A recipe is included in week two and includes ingredients usually found in most households: flour tortilla, banana, nut butter of choice and jelly/jam of your choice.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher feedback will be provided to students who submit the weekly question activity during the week it is assigned. Answers submitted after the due date will receive feedback asap as the teacher's schedule permits. Teacher feedback will also be provided for submissions of the assessment in Week 4.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental involvement is encouraged for any activity in the lesson that involves cooking, internet use, etc.
