In the land of Prydain, evil is never far away. Arawn, Lord of the Land of Death, has been building an army of dark warriors to take over Prydain, and the only way to stop him is to destroy the Black Cauldron he uses to create his dreaded soldiers. Taran, Assistant Pig-Keeper, and his loyal companions must journey deep into Arawn's domain to destroy the Black Cauldron. For each of them, the quest has special meaning. For Taran, it is a glorious opportunity to use his first sword in battle....
Students will learn to discuss with they are reading in a clear manner and will learn important critical reading skills such as summarizing, analyzing word choice, analyzing fantasy characters, and problem and solution.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The Black Cauldron is high fantasy and therefore contains strong themes of good and evils. The bad guys are bad and could be scary for some readers. There are also some characters who die in this book. Students will be provided with links to Google Forms for their homework assignments. Learners do not need a Google account to fill out the form. If you would prefer to have your learner not use Google Forms, please send me a message and we can work out another way for them to complete the assignments.
