Class Experience
Students will discover the science of winter and complete weekly winter-themed activities to explore the topics and demonstrate understanding.
Week 1: Recycled Building Materials -Cups, paper clips, popsicle sticks, paper, etc.. Tissue Paper (yellow/white/gold) Liquid Glue Foam Brush Black Construction Paper Week 2: Fallen Twigs (small) Light Blue Construction Paper White Craft Paint Cotton Swab Liquid School Glue Pine Cones Hot & Cold Water Baking Sheet Tongs Week 3: Craft Paint Construction Paper Baby Oil Glitter Alka-Seltzer Mason Jar (or other glass jar with a lid) Something to stir with Water Week 4: Black Construction Paper Googly Eyes Orange Construction Paper Glue Scissors Cotton Balls Water Salt Small penguin toy or other small water-safe toy to represent penguin Small bowl (to freeze water) Week 5: Toothpicks Marshmallows Optional: small animal toys Blue Construction Paper White Craft Paint Cotton Swabs Cotton Balls Brown Construction Paper Paper Plate Googly Eyes Week 6: Pine Cone Peanut (or other nut butter) Bird Seed Twine or string Week 7: Ice Cube Tray Watercolor Paint or Food Coloring Water Watercolor paper or cardstock Half and Half Sugar Vanilla Extract Ice Rock or Kosher Salt One sandwich sized ziploc bag One gallon sized ziploc bag Week 8: Gallon-sized ziploc bags (2) Shortening Ice Water Tape or Rubber Band Black, White, Grey, & Blue Construction Paper Fork White Craft Paint Black Marker
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental guidance is advised to ensure safe use of scissors - required throughout the course - as well as the use of a hot water which will require parental assistance. Students will access pre-recorded videos through the EdPuzzle platform, an Outschool approved, third-party website.
