In this monthlong class, students will learn about planning, designing, furnishing, and decorating spaces with an Interior & Home Designer.
Class experience
This is a Flex version of my ongoing Interior and Home Design Club. In this month-long class, students will learn about a different aspect of Interior Design, Architectural Design, or Construction as it relates to residential home design each week. Students will be able to confidently use several design tools to communicate their design vision, as well as start to develop their own sense of style and learn how to present a completed project to a client.
I own and run an Interior Design Build company that focuses on complete design build projects, with a focus on great architectural and interior design. I have worked in the home design industry for 10 years in interior design, architectural design, home staging, real estate, and designing investment properties. I have worked with several students and interns, guiding them in enhancing their design talents and in learning more about the industry. I love helping students discover their love of design and guiding them in the steps it takes to become a great designer!
Canva account. Free. Canva will work on tablets or computers and is learner preference which to use. Students will need to know how to upload images to Canva, which can be done by screenshotting and uploading, or by copying and pasting, or by saving images and uploading them. Homestyler account on Chrome browser on a computer. Free. The Homestyler app on a phone or tablet will not work for our projects. We will be using the browser-based version which requires the Chrome browser to run properly. Some students prefer to use a mouse to design, but that is learner preference. Roomstyler.com account. Free. Style Sourcebook account. Free. https://stylesourcebook.com.au/ Hand-drawing supplies: -paper (white paper and graph paper preferable) -pencils to draw (I use a mechanical drafting pencil in 0.5mm lead. Any pencil will work, though!) -ruler (any ruler will work! I use a clear ruler.) -OPTIONAL thin black markers (like Micron or fine line Sharpie) for outlining floor plan drawings -OPTIONAL colored pencils or markers for adding color to hand-drawn plans -OPTIONAL scissors. Students will have the option to cut out furniture for arranging floor plans. -OPTIONAL tracing paper for drawing exercises. -OPTIONAL card stock or poster board for mounting floor plans. I will show students how they can mount a floor plan if they wish, but again, this is optional for the project.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
