In this 6 week course, students will discuss photographs, experience the history of photography, create visual variety, and begin editing using any camera or phone/tablet in this interactive photography experience with Erika Hatfield.

Class Experience

*IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE: This is the second course in the Creative Photography Class Series. Students should complete the 4 week course before enrolling in this one. Links for these courses are listed below. All 3 courses together are an 18 week semester-long course. 

Students will expand on what they learned in the first photography course as they learn more about discussing photographs, the history of photography, creating visual variety, introductory editing skills, and creating black and...

Students will be able to create images with interesting subjects, effective lighting and good composition. They will be able to discuss photographs and film photography. They will create visual variety in a set of images. They will be able to make basic editing adjustments and choose good images to convert to black and white.

Students will have photography assignments each week so that they can practice and have some images to share with the group.

Camera or phone/tablet with a camera 
Objects and/or people around the house to photograph 

Week 2: Disposable or other film camera or Instafilm camera or regular phone or camera, paper, and tape or post-its 

Weeks 4-5: Any simple editing software, including the built-in editor on phones and tablets

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:Youtube

Students will have the opportunity to pause class videos, take photos, and share their images with the teacher and the class so they can try out skills immediately.  Students will receive feedback for their photographs throughout the course.

No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
