Class Experience

This is a FLEX class. That means there are NO LIVE MEETINGS for this Spanish crash course.

Bienvenidos! In this 5-week video course, your child will learn some of the fundamentals of the Spanish language. Throughout the course, they'll learn 25 different Spanish words and phrases to use in everyday conversation.

We'll focus on Mexican Spanish, since that is what I specialize in. Each week, the featured video will include a custom slide presentation on Nearpod. Some of the interactive activities you can look forward to include:

-vocabulary matching games
-Time to Climb review activities
-direct messaging opportunities in the virtual classroom
-optional homework after each lesson

Here is what will be covered each week:

1. Week 1: Greetings and introductions
Your kids will learn 6 different greetings in Spanish. We'll do 2 different matching activities, play a Time to Climb review game, and learn about the culture surrounding greetings in Mexico. A lot of emphasis is placed on clear pronunciation and review of vocabulary.

2. Week 2: Goodbyes
Your child will learn 6 different ways to say "goodbye" in Spanish. For example, they'll learn how to say "See you later", "Take care", and "See you soon". I pronounce each phrase slowly several times so your child can repeat my pronunciation and follow along. We have several review games and activities in this class via Nearpod.

3. Week 3: What's Your Name?
Students will learn two different ways to ask and answer the question "What is your name?" in Spanish. They'll play several review games to solidify their understanding of the vocabulary. They'll also learn how to correctly end verbs to correctly match the subject when it comes to the words I (yo) and you (tú) in Spanish, in the present tense. In addition, students will learn about the Spanish naming tradition of having two last names.

4. Week 4: How are you?
Students will learn how to ask "How are you?" in Spanish, in both the formal and informal manners. They'll also learn to how answer this questions using 5 different emotion adjectives in Spanish. As usual, there will be plenty of review games and activities to play via Nearpod.

5. Week 5: Lessons 1-4 Review
There is an extra Nearpod activity for this week. I've designed an interactive review lesson on Nearpod, so students can review what they've learned throughout the entire length of this Spanish course. Practice makes perfect!

Parents please note: Your child will need to access Nearpod to do the interactive games and activities in this course. I strongly recommend this, since these activities are what will make this course engaging and interesting for your child.
Learning Goals
Students will learn 25 fundamental phrases and vocabulary words to start speaking Spanish.

Please note that this class will focus on the use of Mexican Spanish, since that is the Spanish that I specialize in. This does not mean that it is the only correct way to speak Spanish. Spanish is spoken in many countries, and there are many different correct ways to speak this diverse language. For NEARPOD, you will receive a link to the NEARPOD website in a post in the virtual classroom each Sunday. You can click this link directly to access class materials. You could also use the NEARPOD app and use the 5-digit class code, which will be provided in the classroom post as well. For KAHOOT, you will receive a link and Game PIN in a post in the virtual classroom to access the Kahoot website. Kahoot is a website that has virtual quiz games. I've designed a quiz on this website to help your child review the knowledge learned in each class. For YOUTUBE, you will receive a link in a post in the virtual classroom each Sunday. Please note that the YouTube videos you will receive are private and exclusive to my Outschool students. They are uploaded to YouTube only for your convenience, and are not available to the general public.
