Class Experience
*This course is flexible schedule. No live classes will be held.* In this course, students will watch 15-minute videos, three times per week, reviewing the following concepts: Week One: Numbers 0-10 Week Two: Numbers 0-20 Week Three: Counting by 10s, Counting to 100 Week Four: Introduction to addition Week Five: Counting on, adding one Week Six: Greater than, less than, equal to Videos are interactive and not just lecture. Students will be asked during videos to name numbers, point to objects, trace numbers (in the air, on their hand, etc.) Videos are not merely a 15-minute lecture. Students will be given assignments to practice these skills at home that correlate with the video. Each day will have both a written assignment and a video or picture assignment for more interactivity between teacher and students. For example, if we were learning the number 1, students might complete a handwriting page on the number 1 and then find an object and upload a video of what they saw. The teacher will review all assignments and respond with a written response or video clip. Interaction will take place through Flipgrid. Students will be required to interact with each other by answering questions and/or responding to classmates on Flipgrid at least three times per week. Worksheets will be part of this curriculum, but often hands-on activities will be suggested and encouraged. Young learners learn best when they can incorporate many of their senses into their learning. This course is the second unit of the Kindergarten math course. Video content along with individual work should take 20-30 minutes per day, 3 days per week.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my class! I am an early childhood educator with 15 years of teaching experience.
I have a dual bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education from Weber State University. I have also received additional certificates in teaching reading, ESL, and Orton Gillingham instruction. I taught public school Kindergarten for 5 years, First Grade for 7 years, Second Grade for 1 year, and Adult ESL for 2 years. I then taught English as a Second Language to children around the world for 4 years. I love teaching online and I have a vast amount of experience in making my virtual classroom a place of learning and fun.
While most of my classes will be for young children I also love math and the challenge it presents so I hope to incorporate my love of algebra into some of our classes. I'm an avid knitter and have written and published several knitting patterns so I may teach a knitting class or two also!
Whether it's knitting, reading, writing, math, or one of my many other interests, I always bring multiple modalities into the classroom. We will sing, talk, and laugh. I incorporate movement, games, and images into my classroom.
I believe that the most important thing to help students learn is the connection they feel with the teacher. When students know that their teacher cares about them they want to work hard and succeed.
A little more about me: I live in a rural area of Utah. We have two dogs, one cat, and 12 chickens. I have five daughters, ages 15, 13, 7,4. and 2. I love to read, knit, and bake. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
