Learn Cantonese with a native speaker! This prerecorded 4-week course is to learn basic Cantonese vocabulary and conversation through “Journey to the West” story. No previous Cantonese knowledge is required.
Class experience
In this fun pre-recorded oral Cantonese class, learners will learn and practice conversational Cantonese using adventure game with Chinese class story “Journey to the West”. (“Journey to the West” is one of the four classics of Chinese literature. Written by the Ming Dynasty novelist Wu during the 16th century.) CLASS STRUCTURE: - In this FLEX class, there will be NO live meetings. Each week, the learners will be introduced to a set of commonly used Cantonese vocabulary and sentence frames...
This class is taught in Cantonese.
TOPIC: - Week 1: The magic stone (Focus: color and fruit) - Week 2: The dragon king (Focus: numbers and basic manner words) - Week 3: Monkey King, stop! (Focus: emotion words) - Week 4: What happened to the monkey king? (Focus: orientation, basic animals and review)
This is a FLEX class with the use of Nearpod. Nearpod is a helpful learning tool and it works on tablet, laptop or computer.

- “Journey of the West” was written in the 16th century in China. It is about a Buddhist monk, and his team (Monkey, Piggy, and Sandy) who went on a journey to the West (India) to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. Along the journey, they had to fight with different monsters and creatures. This class has a secular and creative focus. Things like magic or magical creatures may be discussed. - For younger learners: it might be more helpful to complete this course along with help from a grown-up helper to maximize the full learning experience. - Scissors might be used, parental guidance is strongly recommended.
