Class Experience

This Procreate digital art class is made for complete beginners! It's the perfect class for learners who have never used the Procreate app before but want to learn how. Please note that there are NO live instruction sessions. All lessons are conducted via pre-recorded videos at your learner's convenience. Videos are posted on Mondays at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time. Students are welcome to schedule a live meeting time in the classroom if they need help with something specific.

There are no pre-requisites for this class, however it is necessary to have the Procreate app ($9.99 in the Apple app store) downloaded to your iPad in order to take this class. Procreate is only available on Apple devices at this time. It's also very useful to have a stylus of some kind, but class can be done without one.

Each week students will complete a different project using new skills and will have the option of completing the same project I do OR using the technique to create their own project. I love to see creativity in action! Students will upload their projects to our classroom area where they will provide insight on their own process and constructive feedback on their classmates' projects.

In week one, students will learn how to navigate the basic features of Procreate. They will make a new canvas, explore the brush menu, and learn several helpful shortcuts. Then they will use their new skills to draw a project of their choice. Once their project is done, they can upload it to our classroom area and add a comment about what they are most proud of and what their biggest challenge was. The other students and I will keep the conversation going by responding to each others' comments.

In week two, students will learn how to add personality and unique features to a project using tools in the adjustments menu. After exploring several different tools, learners will complete a project of their choice. Once their project is done, they can upload it to our classroom area and add a comment about what they are most proud of and what their biggest challenge was. The other students and I will keep the conversation going by responding to each others' comments.

In week three, students will learn how to use tools in the layers menu. After exploring what can be done in the layers menu, learners will complete a project of their choice. Once their project is done, they can upload it to our classroom area and add a comment about what they are most proud of and what their biggest challenge was. The other students and I will keep the conversation going by responding to each others' comments.

In week four, students will learn how to use the text tool. After trying several different things with the text tool, they will complete a project of their choice. Once their project is done, they can upload it to our classroom area and add a comment about what they are most proud of and what their biggest challenge was. The other students and I will keep the conversation going by responding to each others' comments.

Teacher/Student interaction: I look forward to seeing students' completed work each week and finding out what they are most proud of and what their biggest challenge was. Those two questions often lead to further insight about a learner's process and provide additional learning opportunities for everyone.

Student/Student interaction: Each week students will share constructive feedback on each other's projects. They can comment on something the learner did well and ask questions about the learners' processes.

Hi! I'm Mrs. Huey and I teach elementary and middle school aged kids how to draw and animate on iPads using the Procreate app. These classes are a fun, safe place to foster creativity, showcase artistic expression, and let learners be their most authentic selves.

In my classes, we gather together to explore the far reaches of our imaginations. Whether drawing an under-the-sea waterscape, animating a prehistoric sauropod, or taking creative license with a hand drawn selfie, everyone's ideas and personalities are welcomed.

I've been working as an elementary school teacher in private, public, and charter schools in Northern California since 2009. Prior to that, I earned a B.A. in communication with a minor in environmental science and spent some time working in the public relations industry.

When I'm not teaching, I split my free time among many different interests! I like to run, hike, travel, take nature photos, play guitar, read, write, and practice yoga.
