This 5 week flexible schedule class is the perfect class to take right after purchasing your sewing machine! Students will learn about a machine's anatomy, how to sew, and complete 4 projects to get off to a fast start with their new hobby!

Class experience

Students will progress from not sewing at all to creating the included projects with their sewing machine. Students will gain confidence throughout the course and proudly display their work.
Homework Offered
Through this flexible schedule course, students will be given a recorded lesson along with additional activities and guides to help them get the most out of this course. Students are encouraged to complete as much of the additional homework as they can to get the most out of this course.

 1 file available upon enrollment
A complete Shopping List will be made available immediately upon enrollment. Additional patterns will be distributed throughout the course as needed. Below is a general supply list outside of specific cuts. **When printing patterns, please do not "Fit to Page". You will also want to make sure to test the 1in square marker on each page for proper sizing. 1. **Sewing Machine (NOT a kid's sewing machine or toy or mini sewing machine - these tend to not be reliable and can create problems. They also have a completely different design than a standard machine.) Please have a standard machine available for this class. Brother and Singer have excellent options for starter machines. 2. All-purpose thread (although I prefer 100% cotton thread to avoid issues) 3. Bobbins 4. Fabric Scissors (serrated works best) 5. Scrap cotton fabric for practicing 6. Seam ripper 7. Pins & Craft Clips 8. Iron & ironing board or mat 9. Elmers Glue STICK 10. Ruler 11. Cotton fabric (exact fabric amounts and cuts available after enrollment) 12. Hand needle 13. Water soluble marker or pen 14. Skinny Wooden Stick or Skewer 15. Small bag of Polyfill stuffing (we only need a tiny amount but this is fun to have around for projects! Students can also use a soft sock to stuff with)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • GoogleDocs
  • YouTube
Parents may need to be available during the class to assist with potentially dangerous tools such as needles and iron. Younger students may require more help than others.
This class and these projects are my own creations based on experience making similar things. Some printable activities are pulled from the book: Best of Sewing Machine Fun for Kids book by Lynda Milligan & Nancy Smith. Most printable activities are my own creations.
