FLEX: IEW Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales (Part 2)

Learners will improve their writing skills and learn how to organize their thoughts by creating outlines and compositions that follow the structure and style of IEW. They will dress up their writing by systematically adjusting parts of speech such as adverbs, strong verbs, and quality adjectives. Students will also practice varied sentence structure by using different sentence openers. 

The learner should be prepared to spend 1-2 hours per week on homework outside of the recordings. This will include writing compositions, studying vocabulary, and participating in asynchronous learning opportunities. The adult at home should be prepared to help when needed. Google Docs is mandatory for grading purposes.

In addition to writing assignments, your learner will be encouraged to send a video of their retellings each week to the rest of the class. 

After a few weeks of instruction, I will send grammar and vocabulary challenges once a week using either Google Slides or Nearpod.

Using Google Slides asynchronously, the learners will apply strategies used in IEW's program to complete assignments, such as labelling parts of speech in a sentence or filling in a chart. Learners will be able to see what others share and leave comments as feedback. 

Nearpod activities will be used to review and master grammar concepts and parts of speech being studied. Vocabulary review and usage will also be included. These can be completed at your own pace.

The learner will be given detailed feedback weekly based on the rubric at the end of each lesson in the Student Book. Collection of feedback and grades will be done at the discretion of the adult at home. 

The learner will also receive feedback on retellings and grammar challenges. 

No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
