From the basics of machine operation and fabric selection, to reading and following patterns, to designing and embellishing their own unique creations, your student will gain the skills and confidence to sew like a pro. Class Description: Week 1: Introduction to the Sewing Machine Week 2: Fabric Selection and Preparation Week 3: Basic Stitches and Seams Week 4: Reading and Following Patterns Week 5: Finishing Techniques Week 6: Basic Alterations and Repairs Week 7: Creating Your Own Designs Week 8: Adding Embellishments and Decorations Week 9: Zippers and Buttonholes Week 10: Knit Fabrics and Stretch Sewing Week 11: Creating Costumes Week 12: Sewing for Special Occasions Week 13: Sewing for Home Decor Week 14: Upcycling and Refashioning Week 15: Advanced Sewing Techniques Week 16: Final Project and Review By the end of this class, students will have the skills and knowledge to use a sewing machine to create their own unique clothing and costumes, and the confidence to continue exploring and growing their sewing skills. The flexible schedule (Recorded Flex Class) allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. We will be going through each week as a group and I will post the lesson weekly (depending on which day you started). The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week, as part of a project. After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps on how to improve or adapt. Time frame for the Week: Mondays - The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions. Tuesdays - Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion. Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Students will discuss it among themselves. Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students. Saturday - Sunday - The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week. Please note: This course requires no prior experience. *For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but their budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower income. Learning Goals

Parental Guidance
Please note that this course involves the use of a sewing machine, and proper safety measures must be taken. Learners will be provided with instructions on how to safely use the machine, and adult supervision is recommended.
Supply List
Students will need access to a sewing machine, sewing supplies (such as fabric, thread, and needles), and a computer or tablet with internet access for online materials. Supplies can be purchased at a reasonable cost from a fabric or craft store, or online.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
