💙 E A C H  C L A S S:
➡ We present a range of different emojis that will be shown to the children, and we will discuss which ones show "anger". Then a short story will be told with the help of puppets/slides.
➡Mindfulness calming strategies will be presented & learners are encouraged to practice them. Learners will learn how to use deep breathing in order to calm themselves. 
➡What happens in our body/brain when we get angry?
➡Releasing emotions strategies (like Blow a balloon, Drum on a balloon) will also be taught.

Lesson 1:
𝐈𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐈𝐭....
 A story about 2 animals who were best friends & played together all the time. 
           When 1 more friend is added, the other friend feels left out.
      
➡Strategies taught: 
        ♪ Song: If you're ____ and You Know It.
        -Learners can come up with words for this song 
          eg. If you are angry/mad and you know it, stomp your feet. 
          Learners can do the actions taught.
        💡 Mindfulness calming strategies: hand breathing, pizza breathing.

Lesson 2:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻
 Angry like a Dragon! We discuss what happens in our bodies when we feel angry: we 
       feel hot, heart beats faster, breathe fast, become sweaty, fiery, feeling that we are 
       losing control! 

➡Strategies taught: 
      ⭐hand model of the brain
      ⭐ "flip the lid"
      ⭐ traffic lights strategy
      ⭐ soothing/self-regulating basic strategies.

2️⃣🧾A S S I G N M E N T 🧾2️⃣
      ➡ Learners will be given a template to make a 3-step plan for when they get angry.

Lesson 3:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝘃𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝘄𝗹
 The main character is faced with a difficult task (solving Math problems). The character thinks they can't do it  and becoming angry. The Guard Dog protects from failure (our amygdala). The Wise Owl thinks of ideas, solutions and small steps to achieve that outcome.

➡Strategies taught:
        ⭐different parts of our brain & their role: 
             "Guard Dog" (amygdala) & "Wise Owl" (Prefrontal cortex)
        ⭐steps to follow when the "Guard Dog" is barking too loudly inside our brain

Lesson 4:
𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗺 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲
 Make a calming spot in the house/room where they can go to when they feel they need to calm down & take some time for themselves. What things are useful to bring in that 'calm spot'. 

➡Strategies taught:
        ⭐ belly breathing
        ⭐ create a "calm spot" in your home
        ⭐"smell the flower" and "fly the tissue"
        ⭐ "hi 5 breathing"
        ⭐ steps to choose your thoughts

Supply List
𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀:

WEEK 1:
☆ 2 colourful balloons. 1 balloon inflated and 1 not inflated, please. Young children will need assistance to blow the balloon and tie it up as well as parental supervision; please, reach out if you don't have balloons or there are latex allergies involved, I can offer alternatives.
☆ a shaker/bell/maracas;
☆ a whistle/recorder/harmonica...etc to blow on;
☆ felt tip pens and 2-3 sheets of paper to draw on;
☆ space to dance around;
☆ a drum stick or a wooden spoon.

WEEK 2:
☆ space to move around;
☆ a box of tissues;
☆ play dough;
☆ a bouncy ball (football or fitness ball);
☆ paper, colouring pens.

WEEK 3:
☆ paper and pens,
☆ play dough 3 colours please.

WEEK 4:
☆ paper and pens;
☆ a box with a lid (plastic container - bigger size to fit some sensorial items);
☆ objects that are used in your household to self soothe your learner (i.e. teddies, squishy toys, etc).

My name is Bella, and I am a certified teacher. I have taught in inclusive schools as well as behaviour schools for 20 years. I have always taught a variety of children with different disabilities, especially autistic and ADHD students. Teaching children direct strategies and techniques to manage their emotions has always been part of classroom management, and I used to do this at least once a day at circle time in my school. 

I also hold a second degree in Social Work (2004) and a Level 3 Diploma in Children's Psychology (2019).

I have a daughter who is autistic, a husband who is dyslexic and has ADHD. I resigned from teaching in public schools two and a half years ago, and I started tutoring and doing interventions for autistic and ADHD children from my home and also online. I also teach ukulele and guitar on Outschool, which is my second passion.

My classes are fun, interactive, small groups of children where each child finds their voice and shines bright!
