In this class we will take a unique path to preparing for kindergarten. We will discover new languages and cultures as we explore the seven continents of the world while also gaining basic skills necessary for kindergarten. Over the next eight weeks, there will be a lesson available for each day of the week. Each lesson will be for 15 to 20 minutes in length and the class will proceed in a style similar to a that of an actual PreK classroom. Each week will have a focus or theme of a different...
Students will learn and gain academic skills that will prepare them to enter kindergarten at or above grade level. Students will learn about people, cultures, languages and some geography of the world that they live in.
Mrs. Lewshawnda Haywood- I have more than 20 years of experience teaching young learners as well as creating PreK programs for schools. I ran a 4 year old PreK program for a charter school in which students were reading at a 1st grade level by the end of the year. I also founded a private school of my own which included 3 and 4 year old Pre-K students who ended their year not only prepared for Kindergarten but also as confident beginning readers as well. I have completed 15 post secondary credits in the Arabic language at North Central University and The University of Minnesota. I have been teaching basic Arabic reading and writing skills for 10 years . I taught Arabic to children in grades Pre-K through grade 2 at a charter school for four years as well as a private school that I founded for seven years. I regularly meet with Arabic tutors to increase my skills and knowledge in this subject as well as to gain experience with various spoken dialects. I currently speak and teach Modern Standard Arabic.
Accompanying worksheets will be provided with each lesson that can be completed during or after the lesson.
Parents can assess their own child's progress as they become more independent during their participation in class as well as how they are using learned information outside of class.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students are welcome to move around as they are in their seats without actually standing up but they are also welcome to stand up and do all movements in an open and safe space. In this case, parental supervision is advised so that students are safe as they are dancing or making physical movements such as: lifting arms, touching toes, turning circles or running in place.
