Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
What is happiness? What makes you happy? What makes other people happy? What makes a happy society?

In this class we will explore all these questions by looking at the strengths and weaknesses of some theories of happiness. I will then suggest a working definition of happiness to use for the rest of the class.
Once we have settled on a working definition of happiness we look at how the mind and body interact to underpin happiness.
Then we look at things that generally make people happy and what habits are the most likely to lead to happiness. We can discuss why everyone doesn't do all of them all the time! Finally we look at whether society should make happiness is central focus instead of, for example, economic growth or money.

Topics to include:

Week 1 :
What is "Happiness"?

Week 2 :
How do you get Happy?

Week 3:
Why we need to know the difference between needs and wants?

Week 4:
Why money won't buy happiness?

Week 5:
What habits are the most likely to lead to happiness?

Week 6:
We look at whether society should make happiness is central focus instead of, for example, economic growth or money.

The flexible schedule (Flex Class) allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. We will be going through each week as a group and I will post the lesson weekly (depending on which day you started).

The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week, as part of a project.

After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps on how to create a process to manage their finances successfully.

Time frame for the Week:
Mondays - The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions.
Tuesdays - Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion.
Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Students will discuss it among themselves.
Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students.
Saturday - Sunday - The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week.

The aim of this course is to help students improve their happiness and confidence by teaching them how to be more happy and more confident and how to be more effective once they get it.

No required experience or previous knowledge is needed by the learners.
