What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to read each book before the module in which it is discussed. The students can read this independently, or they can listen to it be read aloud. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are very quick reads, each should take no more than a few hours. Students can jot down thoughts as they read on the provided paper.Assessment
I will actively monitor the discussion and build on student ideas.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 4
In this eight-week course students will read (or be read) the first eight Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, by Jeff Kinney. We will cover one book per module. Optional discussion board posts will center around favorite parts, parts that made us think, and even parts that made us sad. We will learn to generate questions for discussion board posts, though posting those questions is completely optional, and each module will have several activities to choose from! For learners who need help reading please feel free to read the book aloud, or have them listen to it via audio book. The purpose of this class is to appreciate and talk about the series, not necessarily being a fluent reader. I will focus the class on the thinking that goes on before, during, and after reading more than reading itself. Learners are welcome to share their activities and use the discussion board, but sharing is completely optional. While book clubs are generally more meaningful with peer interaction, I want to provide a space for my learners without the expectation of social interaction. Social anxiety is real, and that is only one of many reasons learners may be uncomfortable sharing. This book club is for everyone! Module 1- Diary of a Wimpy Kid Module 2- Rodrick Rules Module 3- The Last Straw Module 4- Dog Days Module 5- The Ugly Truth Module 6- Cabin Fever Module 7 - The Third Wheel Module 8 - Hard Luck
