US Grade 9 - 12
The purpose of this class is to provide a club and space for students to gain creativity and feedback. Everyone will have the same writing prompt and students will get to see how different their stories are with the same prompt. Lots of ideas can be generated from one prompt. Students may even get more ideas from others sharing theirs. At the beginning of the class I will post the online journal that students will use for the class. This will be a google slides document. I will also post google slides of the styles of writing. Students will look through these over the first two weeks and choose two to complete during that time frame. The writing assignments are at the end of each slide presentation. This will get students familiar with different styles of writing. We will also use these assignments within the first two weeks to learn about constructive criticism. After the first two weeks, starting on week three, I will post the writing prompt of the week on Mondays (eastern daylight time). Students can choose which style of writing they would like to write for the prompt of the week. After completing their writing assignment on a google doc and will comment their writing on the post of the week. Students will then interact with each other by reading each others work and respond by commenting on their writing piece. They can give both positive and constructed feedback. Content Posted the first 2 weeks Writing Styles - Letters - Poems - Short Stories - How To's - Plays/Scripts - Speeches - Informative Writing - Diary Entries Online Journal - An online journal (google slide) will also be posted. Students will complete 5 short entries in per week in addition to the writing prompt. Some of the entries will be free write and some will be titled. All journal entries will not be shared with classmates. Learners can expect to see examples and learn about the format of writing we will be using. This is a club where students can have fun writing and get feedback from both the other students and myself. *After the first two weeks writing prompts will be chosen and will be posted weekly. Learners will interact with each other through discussion. We will give positive and constructive feedback. Students will need access to google docs in order to write and share their writing. Students will also need access to google slides for their online journal. Writing will be shared whereas journals will not be shared. That way if students want to keep their journal private they can. *Please note that writing prompts will be created after the class has started. Some prompts will be student centered so they will be created after the class has started. No experience is required. We are here to have fun and grow as writers. I want this club to be fun and engaging for all learners and levels. At the end of the course each student will get a club certificate.
Learning Goals

I have always loved writing and enjoyed my creative writing class in high school. I have been teaching not this class but a similar version on Outschool over the summer and have had positive feedback from the students. Before Outschool I did small creative writing activities with high school students in my current position as a 9th grade teacher.
