1 hour per week. After each video each week, the student may have to use their knowledge to try and escape the room! This will serve both as a way to practice the codes while also serving as an assessment so I can make sure the student understands how the codes are used.Assessment
At the completion of each Escape Room the students will find a secret message that they will send to me which will let me know they have completed the task! Throughout the week, as they work together with their co-spy, they will also be uploading messages to each other in our classroom message board where I will be able to check for understanding.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this 4 week flexible class, students will learn about different ciphers and codes in a very unique way! Each week, the students will be taught a new cipher and will be "TRAPPED" in a 360º degree interactive room where they will have to use their new knowledge to escape! Students will learn about the Caesar Cipher, Pigpen Cipher, and Polybius Square during weeks 1-3. In the final week, students will be challenged to make their own code using the codes we have learned in class or one of their own creation! Weekly: *Each week will contain videos that the students will watch prior to learning how to complete the tasks for the week. Students will have a chance to interact with other students throughout each week as a way to practice their new learned skills. Each student will be given a "co-spy" that they will work with throughout the week. Students will use the classroom message board to upload pictures of their codes to share with the class! For a sneak peak into one of the 360º rooms the students will be trapped in, check out the link below. https://www.thinglink.com/video/1341964221482532866 Once a student understands the basics of the codes, they will be able to create codes on their own to share with friends and family, or put in their own escape rooms! All you need to bring to class is a piece of paper and something to write with and we are going to have a lot of fun! Schedule for Classes: Week 1- History of the Caesar Cipher How to Read It How to Write It CAN YOU ESCAPE? I have been an educator for 15 years teaching elementary, middle, and high school. I have taught online classes to students around the world for the past 5 years. My goal with all of my classes is for students to learn while not realizing they are learning! Currently, I work with kids every day as a middle school teacher and love to watch them get excited about tech! We will have a great time cracking and creating codes together.
