1-2 hours per week. Students MUST participate in the class to move forward. This is a personalized private music lesson that requires students to respond with video in order to move forward to the next assignment.Class Experience
In Flex Class private music lessons, learners will correspond with teachers through the Outschool classroom to progress on their instrument without the time constraint of a weekly lesson meeting time. Each 8-week session will be run by an expert music teacher on the instrument of the learner's choice: guitar, voice, piano, ukulele, viola, violin, cello, bass, songwriting, music production, arranging, or music theory. HOW IT WORKS... 1. Sign up for a session and get paired with a teacher! 2. Answer a series of assessment questions to select an appropriate curriculum and develop a plan to meet your musical goals! 3. Teacher will post an appropriate video assignment tailored to the students' needs 4. Student will respond with a video completing the assignment 5. Teacher will respond with video feedback 6. Student will then respond with changes from feedback video 7. Teacher will move student on to the next activity when student demonstrates mastery of each concept There is no limit to how many activities you can complete each week! This course will flow at the pace of the student. WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM CORRESPONDENCE LESSONS? - This video lesson format would be extremely beneficial for busy students who wish to continue their musical studies at their own pace within the time constraints of other activities. - Perfect for students who prefer to not socialize with teachers or other students as there is an option to simply show your hands on your instrument. - Students who are looking for instruction on high level concepts and not able to find qualified teachers that fit their schedule. - Students who are able to move quickly through material! - Families who are looking to participate in private lessons at a lower price point than live meetings. WHO DOES BEST IN THIS CLASS TYPE? - This unique class type is not suited for everyone! This class is great for tweens and teens who are tech savvy and are proactive in corresponding through text and video with teachers. Each session will be personalized based on each students' needs and current level! ALL ages and abilities are welcome to join! An example of the 8-week course for the dedicated student would follow a syllabus like this: WEEK 1 Assessment and goal setting (ex: previous experience, future musical goals, favorite musical styles) Review core concepts (ex: posture, tuning, hand position) - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - Lesson on strumming pattern (ex: island strum) - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 2 Song choice (ex: song options that use the island strum) Lesson on chord progressions - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - Lesson on chosen song incorporating chord progression - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 3 Rhythm Game - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - Ear Training Game - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - Song Demonstration - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 4 Lesson on reading TAB and standard notation - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 5 Lesson on how to play a blues lick - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 6 Lesson on how to play a 12 bar blues - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 7 Lesson on how to put a blues turnaround at the end of a 12 Bar Blues - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward - WEEK 8 Lesson on how to do a walking bass line in a 12 Bar Blues with turnaround - Student will be required to respond with text and video to move forward -
