Do you love the NBA and basketball centers? Well then, this is the class for you! Join me and other students as we learn about and analyze the top 4 basketball centers in the NBA. We will dive into their biographies, analyze their statistics, and thoroughly dissect the each center's profile. While learning, a script will be provided so students can read along with the video if they feel the need to. Each video created by Coach Tom will come equipped with questions pertaining to each...
- Comprehension and Analysis: Students will be presented with a script and presentation about the NBA centers and be able to express their analysis of the same (and similar) teams. - Critical Thinking: Students will respond to comprehension questions relevant to the prominent team. - Social Skills: Students will be able to meet other students with a passion for basketball! In doing so, they will learn and practice conversational skills through the classroom chat.
I have played, coached, and now analyzed sports for the past 20 years. As a coach I was able to coach every position and team at the High School Varsity level. I also had extensive practice with breaking down team and opponent scouting film. This led to my current position where I work for a football analytics company where I analyze and input data of different football teams in the NFL and NCAA, and soccer leagues around the world.
(Optional) Each video will be paired with a script and set of questions to help with focus, note-taking, and critical thinking. The student does not have to, but can turn in their answers by messaging me directly in the Outschool teacher-learner chat. I am always happy to interact and respond to students' work and/or questions. With this being said, each presentation will always have a set of questions coupled with it.
(Optional) Similar to the homework, this will be optional. Each presentation will also be paired with a "big picture" question that will encourage the student to activate their "critical thinking" cap. The learner will be asked to answer the question in 3-5 sentences explaining their answer.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will be accessing Canva for the biographies, homework questions, and critical thinking assessment.
