Class Experience

In this 4-week Flex Class, students will learn how to draw 3-D letters with One-Point Perspective and shading.

Week 1- Introduction to Bubble Letters & Practice
Week 2- Introduction to 1-Point Perspective & Practice
Week 3- Plan & Begin Final Drawing
Week 4- Shading Tutorial & Complete Final Drawing

We will begin with a step-by-step tutorial about how to draw bubble letters. This a fool-proof technique that can turn any font into a block letter, even cursive! Your student will walk through several tutorial videos, complete the assigned classwork, and post a photo of their practice in our classroom.

Next, we will learn a One-Point Perspective. Students will learn a bit of art history and the origin of perspective drawing. They will also learn the vocabulary words: Vanishing Point, Horizon Line, and Orthogonal Line. We will also discuss the difference between Shape and Form, two Elements of Art. This lesson will include a discussion post, printable worksheets, and assigned practice. Students will upload pictures of their work. Students are encouraged to comment on each other’s work to cheer their classmates on.

In the third week of class, I will discuss the options for the final project. Students will sketch 3 ideas for their own final project using the techniques taught in weeks 1 and 2. Students will post their brainstorming sketches on the forum to be reviewed by the teacher. Students can comment on each other's posts to give encouragement, suggestions, or ideas.
Finally, students will begin their final drawings. Students can submit their in-progress work to be checked for accuracy at any point.

Lastly, I will demonstrate how to use shading to enhance their drawing's 3D effect. Students will watch a tutorial video, complete a worksheet, and upload it for review. Students will then use the shading techniques to complete their final drawing. These final drawings will then be uploaded. I will encourage students to comment on each other's posts using guided questions for reflection.
