Class Experience

This video-based flex class is all about the four kinds of sentences! Please note that there are NO live meetings. Students will receive a video link on the day that class starts.

1. What are the four types of sentences?
2. Come find out!
3. This class will be fun.
4. I promise!

Can you identify each of the above types of sentences? If not, you need this class! For the record, they are: 1) interrogative, 2) imperative, 3) declarative, and 4) exclamatory.

This class will break down, first of all, what makes a sentence a sentence, and secondly, what the four types of sentences are: declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative.

Class begins with a fun warm-up that challenges students to write imperative commands for living a good life (Be kind. Bake cookies.). Then, we will briefly review the definition of a sentence before proceeding to an examination of the four types of sentences.

Class is conducted with plenty of engaging images and discussion directed at the student. Each student will also have access to a worksheet which will help them follow along.

After the presentation of the types, along with examples of each, students will have a checkpoint where they identify the different types of sentences.

Then, it's time for students to write their own sentences based on various images presented during class. For instance, for a picture of a man stuck in a playground, students must write one of each kind of sentence.

Students also will receive a printout for their records of the types of sentences.

Midweek, the instructor will post a Nearpod game for students to test their skills.
