Class Experience

Students will take a deep-dive into what it means to be happy, angry, sad, and surprised.
I teach English to children in China aged 3-13, including a specialization in phonics for preschoolers. I have years of experience substitute-teaching numerous preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes. I am also a mother of my own toddler! I tend to be a goofy, energetic, supportive person who provides a fun and encouraging atmosphere to my students!
Although no formal homework is assigned, all activities will be completed on the learner's own time, at home, with the assistance of mom, dad, a sibling, grandparent, etc.

Some daily activities will be completed individually by the learner (with picture-taking and uploading assistance, for example), and other daily activities will allow the learner to include the other members of their household.

The combination of each day's 1-2 activities will consume approximately 15-20 minutes (each day, M-F), although timing will vary from learner to learner.
I will provide all of the images, videos, slideshows, and activities to students. A few worksheets and coloring sheets will be posted to the classroom, which will require parents to print these worksheets out to use. In some cases, the worksheets can easily be drawn by hand (i.e., making 6 squares on a sheet of paper to give your learner 6 spaces to draw within). In the worst case scenario, if you do not have a printer/ink at home and cannot replicate the worksheet by hand, you can skip those singular activities (like a coloring sheet). I will also do my best to provide alternative methods for any worksheet that would need to be printed. Your learner will also need a writing utensil of some sort, as well as something to color with (markers, crayons, colored pencils-- your choice!) Finally, your learner will need assistance in taking photos and video clips and posting them to our classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
There are no formal assessments in this class. Learners will be informally assessed during week five, which is when all four emotions will be reviewed together. Week Five's activities will include "assessment-style questions," such as viewing slideshows with mom/dad/a sibling/etc. and naming which emotion they see in the presented photo.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be exposed to sadness and anger, including, but not limited to:
-Photos of faces that are sad or angry,
-Clips of animations/cartoons that demonstrate sadness or anger,
-Exploration of their own feelings and what makes them feel sad and angry.

Please do not enroll your little one if he/she would be disturbed by these emotions or their demonstration.
