Class Experience

In this flexible schedule four week course, your child can develop independent life skills at their own pace! Below is an overview of what we will be covering in this course. As a student moves through high school, they often struggle to begin with post-graduation planning. This course will ease that stressful transition in two ways: 1) providing information to build independence and knowledge, and 2) providing this information at the pace of the student. High school schedules are busy and chaotic enough - this class is not intended to add more to your child's plate. Rather, it will fit into their schedule and arm them with knowledge.

Week 1: Resume building - students will create their own resume to take as a finished product from the course.

Week 2: Job Skills - students will learn about soft skills required to succeed in employment, and explore how to read a job posting, apply, and interview for a job.

Week 3: College and Career - students will learn about options available to them after high school, and how to conduct useful research and make informed decisions.

Week 4: Financial Basics - students will learn the basics of money management, credit, investing, and how to plan/ budget for large purchases.

Hey there! My name is Emily Kendall. My passion for education is to make it fun and purposeful for each student that I get the privilege to interact with!

I am currently a research fellow, earning my PhD in education at the University of Oklahoma. The specialty of my research is to arm students with skills and knowledge to transition from school and into adulthood - no matter what age, it is never too early or too late! I also serve as a military reservist, Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard.

I earned my associate degree in child psychology, then my bachelor of science in education from Liberty University, and then my master of science in special education from Johns Hopkins University.

I teach classes that are based on real-life experience and literature. If a student can connect a concept to an experience, then they are engaging in valuable learning!

For example, my one on one tutoring sessions typically involve the interest of a student (ex. cooking), and my lesson will be constructed around famous chefs/ bakers from history, utilizing math and science skills, even marketing, business, and finance, as these play a role in a career or hobby surrounding cooking.

Please message me with any specific concerns or requests for your child, and let's get started!
