Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
The Oregon Trail was 2,170 miles long and is considered the longest graveyard in North America. Students will be given the opportunity to sell their characters belongs, purchase the supplies necessary, and begin their trip across the trail beginning in the year 1848..they will have one week to complete their mission. The course is designed to engage students while they learn historical facts, practice math, negation, problem-solving, and life skills while they brainstorm ways to survive this brutal trip. Each week students will be given a number of miles that will need to traveled while enduring weather, diseases, wild animals, and so much more. Students will make period era decisions based on those situations using journaling worksheets that will be provided prior to class start. This class will be taught through worksheets, journaling, PowerPoint, crafts, and video/audio clips --- Students will need to be able to access YouTube for each weeks adventure (a private link will be shared) !! Students will following along with each video and instruction to complete that weeks task - after the student completes the weeks journey students should return to our Outschool classroom and provide the class with the status of their journey (lives lost, money spend, items lost, and days lost). Students will then interact via our classroom to find students to trade supplies with if necessary and to discuss their travels.....as the instructor I will be interacting each week with students via the classroom through discussion, questions, and answers. Students will be able to create two craft projects that will be discussed on our first week and can be completed and show off on week five via photograph attachment to the classroom. PLEASE NOTE: This class is identical to my live course but, this class time offers students a more flexible learning environment.
