Class Experience
Part 1 of 4 This is the first 4 week section of a 4 part course. Are you looking for a class that will help your student think big and change the world? Look no further! In this 16-week class, our experienced instructor will teach your student how to identify and analyse social and environmental issues, think creatively to develop innovative solutions, and communicate and implement their ideas. Throughout the course, students will learn to identify and analyze social and environmental issues, think creatively to develop innovative solutions, and develop the skills necessary to communicate and implement their ideas.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, our instructor has developed a unique approach to teaching students how to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
Each week, learners will complete a project related to the topic covered in class. Projects may be completed individually or in groups, and will take approximately 1-2 hours per week. Students will also be expected to read articles and watch videos related to the topic.
Learners will need a notebook and pen or pencil for reflective writing exercises.
Learner progress will be assessed through regular feedback and guidance from the teacher. There will be no formal grades or tests.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This course requires no prior experience. No content or safety warnings apply.
The course material will be developed using a variety of sources to ensure a balanced and comprehensive understanding of the social and environmental issues discussed. These include: "The End of Poverty" by Jeffrey Sachs for understanding global poverty "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander for exploring issues of social justice "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate" by Naomi Klein for analyzing climate change "The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History" by Elizabeth Kolbert for understanding biodiversity loss "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn for discussing gender inequality Various articles from reputable sources like The Guardian, The New York Times, and National Geographic for current and diverse perspectives on these issues
