Week 1Lesson 1Your First SongCreating your first-ever song using pre-recorded loops (concepts: guided exploration, important navigation buttons, rhythmic and melodic loops, trimming loops, copy/pasting loops, exporting files, how to share your song)Week 2Lesson 2Writing a Song Using the Audio RecorderWriting and recording a rap and creating accompaniment using loops (concepts: creating ABA form in a piece, transitional techniques between sections, writing a short rap, recording and editing an audio file, copy/pasting and audio file, adding effects, texture, and variety)Week 3Lesson 3Drum Beat ExplorationCreating a song with your own custom drum beat (performing and recording a custom drum beat on the acoustic drum set, editing track using quantization, and using Smart Drums, Beat Sequencer, and Drummer to customize drum beats, while adding various loops to supplement drum recordings, editing tracks using quantization, adding extra loops for texture, adding sections, adding FX)Week 4Lesson 4Recording Using Bass, Guitar, Strings, & PianoCreating a song by playing and recording bass, guitar, strings, and piano within the app (four basic chords in music, using SmartBass to play and record chords, using SmartGuitar to play and record chords, using SmartPiano to play and record chords, using SmartStrings to play and record chords, recording a melody line using the strings, guitar, or piano with the pentatonic scale, editing tracks using automation and quantization, adding extra loops for texture, adding sections, adding FX)
Homework Offered
Students are to create their own song within GarageBand as they follow along with the instructional videos. They are welcome to share these songs with Ms. G for personalized feedback.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

iPads or iPhones with GarageBand downloaded are ~ REQUIRED ~ for this course. Please download the app ahead of time to ensure that it is working and your student is prepared for class (requires iOS 13.0 or later!!!). Laptops and desktops will be permitted in weeks 1 & 2 if necessary but it is our suggestion to complete the entire course with an iPad or iPhone. Refunds will NOT be provided if a learner enrolls without reading all directions and realizes they do not have the correct tools after enrollment.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
