Learning Goals
This course, taught by a native speaker and German university professor, can count towards credit for a German Level 101. It is based on one of the most advanced university level curricula in the country and incorporates fundamentals in learning German language, vocabulary, grammar and culture. This is a flexible schedule course that will allow your learner to work on his/her own time while receiving feedback from me if they like.

My students always have lots of fun during the lessons and hardly realize how much they are learning each week! By the end of the semester students are able to comprehend and easily engage in basic German conversations and understand moreover the fundamentals of German history, geography and culture. Most of my students are by then ready to take a trip to Germany or a German speaking country and are excited about their newly acquired language skills.

Being a native speaker I have found that in teaching German the most efficient and most natural approach is a partial language immersion model. The students will hear me speak a lot of German and will have fun repeating phrases after me. We will initially focus on comprehension and then move to reading, writing and first grammatical concepts. Your scholar will not notice how much he or she is learning while having fun!!

Auf Wiedersehen!

GERMAN 1- COURSE OUTLINE

🌟 Willkommen zum Unterricht! (Welcome to our class)

🤓 This German language class series is taught by a native German speaker and current university professor who has taught all ages.

This class is for students who have no knowledge of the German language yet and are looking forward to learn! After this course students will be able to take my advanced classes, conversation courses and German book clubs.

Students will learn the basics of understanding and speaking German and at least 150 German vocabulary words using, repetition, videos and props.

💻 Each week, a new lesson will be released which will include:
-A prerecorded video lesson by the teacher.
-A project assignment which may include a short video, a drawing, or a photo collage (all due on different weeks)
-A list of new vocabulary words, worksheets and an interactive online vocabulary assignment.
-On top of the class video there may be 1-2 short (10 second) videos of me saying basic phrases such as the day of the week. Each student will be asked to record and post videos to the class page of themselves duplicating these short videos showing their ability to say the words and phrases. In this way students can interact with each other and learn together through their videos clips. I will extensively respond to each students videos and work with much encouragement and when needed correction. My feedback is always positive and uplifting. Students are also encouraged (just like in college later on) to comment on their fellow students' work with positive affirmations and emojis to cheer each other on!
Once students have watched the video of the week, they will be able to fill out a provided worksheet each week and upload a picture to the classroom or send it to me for feedback and corrections, as well as post/email a video/audio recording of themselves speaking.

I have been teaching German at universities for the past several years and enjoy teaching various ages. I teach the materials of this summer camp at my current university as well and combine it with materials I found helpful for online learning. Prior to teaching at the university I have taught middle school, high school and at some point also elementary school which was fun!
