Join me for this flex baking class to learn how to create tasty desserts and snacks to share with your friends and family. We will change up the recipes each week so that learners are constantly trying something new and have the chance to use a variety of ingredients and kitchen equipment. This will also help them build on their skills. We will begin each week with instructions, a PDF with recipe and ingredient and a video will be supplied each week to walk you through each recipe. The goal of this class is to ensure creativity while learning new skills along the way. Students will be able to ask questions, engage with each other in the classroom and share their creations each week. As a flex class students will have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in discussion within the classroom and reach out to me for any help. Each week we will explore new recipes and techniques through video recordings. This will allow students to tackle their recipes each week at their pace. This will also help for time management during bake time, cool down time and other necessary time restraints. By the end of class our learners will know how to follow the steps of a recipe. They will also have new techniques for baking in the kitchen. This class is meant to encourage learning with hands on tasks and creation to help our learners learn without pressure. All ingredients and kitchen tools needed will be provided to you in the classroom as well as emailed to you in advance each week. Week 1: Vanilla Cupcakes Week 2: Fall Decorated Sugar Cookies Week 3: Poptarts Week 4: Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops Week 5: Funfetti Cinnamon Rolls Week 6: Homemade Donuts Each week, I will present my video tutorial and provide a PDF explaining our project that you will need to download. Students will be asked to share their completed projects with the class during the week by uploading picture or video to our classroom on Outschool so that your fellow students and I can admire your work! Students will also be asked to engage with other students’ work to encourage each other through their projects and assignments. Each week learners will create a video that will share using "I have learned" or "I have loved" statements to talk about their baked goods and the week's recipe. I want students to have fun in the kitchen so we will include fun interactive activities each week for students to take part in as well. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings we want to ensure as much communication amongst the class as possible. Since this is a flex class, there are no live meetings; however, I am available to answer your questions any time during the 6 weeks of class. I will also be posting tips and ideas, suggestions and encouragement in the classroom throughout the course. This is the biggest difference between my course and any other procreate course you might find online! *** When you enroll in this class, you accept full responsibility for your learner's safety. It is essential that a responsible adult is in the same room as the learner (Outschool policy is that adults must remain off camera) and ready to step in to help if necessary. Learners will begin to chop ingredients and use knives for food preparation. Please be aware that sometimes sharper knives can be safer than blunt knives for chopping, as less force is necessary and they are less likely to slip or bounce off the food. Some recipes will require the use of a microwave to melt or heat ingredients. Adult supervision of knives, the microwave and hot ingredients is essential. Some recipes will need baking in the oven. An adult must be responsible for placing the food in the oven, checking on it during cooking and taking it out when necessary. ***
Learning Goals
Students will learn to follow recipes step by step.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there!
My name is Emile Power and I cannot wait to meet your learner! I am a stay-at-home mom to three daughters, live in Toronto, ON and have nine years of teaching experience. I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology through Laurentian University as well as a TESOL and TEFL certificates. After tutoring privately for many years for ages 3-18, I began teaching ESL in the online classroom. I have been teaching ESL online for over two years now and absolutely love the online classroom! I have a multitude of experience working with children with disabilities including but not limited to ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome and learning disabilities. My classroom is a place of accessibility so please do not hesitate to ask for accommodations or let me know how I can help your child succeed.
My teaching style is student centered and engaging. I like to focus on bringing learning to life through activities. I have always been a hands on learner and watching my daughters learn as well it seems to stick better when they can get their hands dirty. My classes will always include creating. We will work through concepts like math, reading and comprehension through creating and using our imagination. I will be focusing on comprehension, creativity and imagination in my classes for all ages. I will have classes designed for specific age groups to ensure all learners can participate in an atmosphere that suits their learning level and needs.
Life lessons are so important and creating a classroom environment to learn them in a fun way is always my goal. Using the creative side of the brain allows for different retention of material as well as a new outlet for growth and development.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and make sure to follow my profile for upcoming classes.
I always offer financial support as well if needed. Please do not hesitate to ask, I want my classes to be accessible to everyone.
