Description
Class Experience
Learners will be introduced to several foundational biology concepts. Learners will increase their knowledge and understanding of axolotls. Learners will participate in a virtual class and respond to other learners. Learners will demonstrate their understanding through creative assignments.
I've been studying science all my life. My father was a renowned herpetologist. As such, I grew up surrounded by animals, plants, and other life forms. I followed my interests in college by studying biology as well as education. I taught middle school science for 21 years, then worked as the middle school science education specialist for the State Department of Education in Alabama for 6 years. In retirement, I am still actively involved in many scientific communities, and stay engaged with groups such as the North American Association for Environmental Education and the National Science Teachers Association. I am passionate and knowledgeable about the study of life, and about passing on this passion to youngsters.
Homework will include simple assignments which should take less than half an hour.
Students will need something to write with/on, and colored pencils for some assignments.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners' responses are assessed in real time as they work through the lessons in Kahoot! I will respond to their assignments and answers to questions in the classroom. No letter grades will be given.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Reproduction is a natural part of biology. I will refer to "external fertilization," with females laying eggs in the water, and males fertilizing these eggs.
