Class Experience

We will begin the class with brief introductions. We will begin with a quick warmup to include arm movement, wrist and finger movements (flores y munecas) and bodily stretches. Though we will be stretching together, make sure that you have already begun moving the body and stretching.

I will ensure to teach the students their main body frame and position along with the sit and stance. Students will learn basic taconeo (footwork) starting with simple words in English and Spanish. We will continue with braceos (armwork) and become familiar with the compas (rhythm) of flamenco. Small water breaks are allowed.

I am a very positive and encouraging instructor; I enjoy watching the children grow and glow. I will accompany all movements with background flamenco music.

A small combination will be taught.

Learning Goals

Students will have learned the basics of flamenco dance and will have learned a short but complete routine by the end of the course to include body movement of footwork, arm-work and basic understanding of the rhythm.

Parental Guidance
Parents, please guide your learner to the preferred area of your home in a non-carpeted area. Also, remind your learner to bring their water bottle.
Supply List
Dancers will need hard-soled shoes. The footwork becomes easier with a little lift at the heel. Girls should use a long skirt. Boys, please make sure your pants do not drag on the floor.

It is recommended to set up your dance space for class on a non-carpeted floor. I would also have a water bottle available.

Ensure that you have adequate space to allow for dance movement so that you do not hinder the full potential of your movement. Turning and pivoting are part of the class. Please wear the suggested shoes, bring your water bottle and begin a warm-up process prior to class. Suggestions: shoulder shrugs, shake your hands, quick prance on the balls of your feet, gentle twisting of torse, and arm circles.
