Students will receive weekly feedback on their projects. I am also available throughout the week for support.Class Experience
Welcome to Teacher Dave's 5 week flexible schedule class on basic French. In this class, students will be provided with weekly videos of the class (there are no live meetings in a flexible class) as well as written material, worksheets, and interactive web-based activites. Flexible classes do not have live meetings. Each week, I will cover a new topic. The video and handouts will be available each Monday morning. Students must watch the video when convenient for them. They can watch the video as many times as they need to assist in their learning of the week's material. During the week, they need to practice speaking the sentences provided. They will then have the opportunity to work with the provided worksheets and online quizzes. At the end of each week, the student will upload a project based on the week's lesson. Ideally, they would record a video of them speaking the week's sentences. Alternatively, they could upload some writing using the week's sentence patterns. The project should be uploaded to the classroom. Students should watch each other's videos and comment on them. If students need help or have questions, they can upload the question to the classroom (this can be written or in a video). I or any other student in the class can answer the question. Students are encouraged to provide comments regarding other student's work (respectively). They can also comment on their own learning. The classroom comment section is a safe place. The class will run for 5 weeks with each week covering a different topic. Here is the schedule: Week 1: Introducing Myself in French In this lesson, students will learn how to describe themself regarding: -my name -my age -my height -where I live (country or city only) -hair and eye color -favorite color and fruit Week 2: French numbers and some basic grammar In this lesson, students will learn the four ways to say "the", based on the gender of the noun. They will also learn how to count in French to 20 as well as the easy pattern to say larger numbers. Week 3: The days of the week. In this lesson, students will learn how to pronounce the days of the week. They will be introduced to sentences to use to say: Today is.... Tomorrow will be... Yesterday was... They will also learn a few pronunciation rules Week 4: The months of the year and the weather In this class, students will learn the months of the year. They will also use knowledge from week 2 and week 3 to state the date. As well, they will learn how to talk about different weather conditions. Week 5: Colors and clothing In this class, students will learn a variety of colors as well as the names of common pieces of clothing. They will see the correct placement of adjectives in a sentence. We will also learn the verb "porter" (to wear) and will use it to talk about what they are wearing. I am a very easy-going teacher who is very supportive and who enjoys seeing the success of my students.
