Students ages 6-11 will learn a catchy jingle to help them identify the five story elements while reading text. Students will use their fingers to retell their favorite stories! This lesson aides in Reading Comprehension.

Class Experience
During this reading comprehension course, students will understand the need for stories to be retold! Students will learn how to retell a story using a five-finger story element jingle. Students will be immersed in text while discovering the problem, setting, characters, solution, and the events in order to comprehend text. Students will be immersed in discussions and problem solving activities. This lesson will be extremely hands-on and will encourage students to move while learning! This...
Students will use the five-finger strategy in order to retell a story. Students will be able to answer questions in order to identify key details. Students will be able to examine story elements in order to comprehend text.
Students will be required to sing the five-finger story element gingle to a family member after the lesson. Students will also be encouraged to read independently or with a family member in order to retell the story.
Select from the following list: 1. Post-it notes and a writing tool (marker, pencil, pen...etc.) 2. Cleaning glove and marker to write on the glove 3. Plain paper and a writing tool (marker, pencil, pen...etc.)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Each learner will be given feedback throughout the lesson. After questions are answered and group work is completed, each student/group will receive verbal meaningful feedback.
