Class Experience

The goal of these classes is for each learner to walk away with a few new habits they can use right away. 
This is also a great beginning to a healthy new lifestyle they can begin (or continue) for themselves. 
I want my learners think of me as their "Health Coach"- Coach Kara.
I taught in a private school for almost 2 years and was the Head of Physical Education & Health Dept. I taught grades 8-12 and I also led the other six teachers who taught the elementary grades. I led my team of teachers by helping them create a holistic PE curriculum for their students. I had full autonomy and was able to write and create my own curriculum.

I taught grades 8-12 and had the best experience teaching what I love the most- fitness and health. I designed the curriculum with the tween/teen in mind thinking back to what would I have benefitted from learning when I was their age? This is how I will lead these classes- teaching my students simple new healthy habits to use for life. 

My teaching experience is broad as I have been lucky enough to teach what I love the most- wellness and a healthy lifestyle. 
My initial training comes from (my own health journey) where from the young ages of 15-20 years old, I struggled with my self-confidence, body image and being a healthy person. After being able to self-heal my mental and emotional challenges I began formal education. 

I focused on the anatomy and physiology in a sports massage program and became Licensed in two states. The following are my trainings, Masters Degree and certifications as I have 2000 hours in training clients and students in the field of wellness and fitness. 
I had my own private business in CA, Aspen and Nashville both seeing clients and students in-person and online/phone. 
-Nationally Board Certified as a Holistic Health Counselor HHC
-Certified Holistic Nutritionist
-Certified Personal Trainer "Coach"
-Certified Yoga Instructor
-Masters Degree in Holistic Nutrition and Psychological Coaching
-Licensed Anatomical and Physiological Sports Massage Therapist
There is no homework with an exception of enjoying the journal exercise and
to begin to do this journal practice (habit) everyday. 
They may begin to build their own wellness habits based on what they enjoy the most.
Each learner will build their own "wellness toolbox" each week with me and the other learners. 
Please bring a new journal with you so you can write down the new habits you will learn in our class. Think of the journal as your Wellness Journey or your "Wellness Toolbox". Bring a pen and colorful markers. You can decide how big you want your journal but make sure you can write in it comfortably so it isn't too small. This is not a digital journal, but the original type of journal where you write and draw in it. You can save your Wellness Journal to look back when you are older. I have all of my journals since I began journaling when I was 12 years old. My journals are a really special way to document my life and can be saved for years to come. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will be able to assess each students growth by their interaction and participation in the class. 
I understand some learners prefer to share more and talk with their peers and some learners
prefer to be quiet or simply speak less. All students will gain new habits in this class and can
take their new habits with them right away. 
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Dear parents- please note this is a (gentle class) so your learner will be in a low-impact type class. 
Each learner can wear trainers/tennis shoes or optionally bare feet. I will be bare foot and on a yoga-type
mat which will be on carpet. Your learner can choose to wear shoes or be bare foot. Please have them wear
comfortable clothes so they can stretch easily. I will be wearing yoga-type pants/ a tank top and an extra light weight hoodie
that can be taken off if it gets hot and my hair pulled back in a ponytail. I will be inside with air conditioning and I encourage your learner to be inside for this class. 
Please have your learner bring a water bottle and a journal with a pen and a marker for the (journal portion) of our class. This class is in 3 parts. 

Based on the learners from the beginning of the class- I will gage the levels of their energy- to connect with the students and see how (low or high their energy levels are) and teach accordingly. 

My intro class will give them an idea of what this on-going class will be like. I am eager to share many years of teaching these health coaching habits to my new learners and have them in class each week - as their teen Health Coach.
All levels are welcome and no prior knowledge is required.
