Class Experience

This course will take place as four 45 minutes classes.

Lesson 1: Greetings and other useful phrases
We will learn basic greeting phrases, yes and no, numbers, and other useful words and phrases.

Lesson 2: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji
We will talk about how Japanese language is described. Differences between hiragana, katakana, and kanji will be explained.

Lesson 3: Sentence structure
Japanese sentences are structured differently from English sentences. We will compare the two languages to understand that Japanese has a different language system.

Lesson 4: Japanese culture
We will talk about how Japanese language reflects Japanese culture. For example, relationships between people are different from many other countries, and such Japanese social norms must be considered when composing sentences.
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to some Japanese phrases. Students will be encouraged to practice pronunciation. The goal of this class is to become familiar with the sounds of the Japanese language.
