This one-time class will teach students how to knit starting from the basics and working up to learning how to produce a knit stitch. At the beginning of class we will introduce ourselves and answer the question, why do you want to knit? This will help students get comfortable with each other. Then we will begin with how to create a slipknot. Next, they will learn how to hold the yarn in our hands to keep tension. Next, we will begin with the most important step, casting on. This section will take the most time in class but it will be worth it. After we have succeeded in casting on 10-20 stitches, we will learn how to produce the knit stitch. During our class I encourage talking about what they plan to make and any other crafts they have done before. My classroom will have a camera facing myself, a camera showing the right-handed way to knit, and upon request, a left-handed way to knit.
Learning Goals
The goal of this lesson is to successfully learn how to knit on both sides of their work to create a garter stitch which can be used to make pot holders, scarves, bags, etc.
